Tanis Worme
Is a Visual Artist based in Ottawa, Canada
Tanis is an emerging artist from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan - Treaty #6 territory. She is Plains Cree and a member of the Poundmaker Cree Nation with roots to Mistawasis and Kawacatoose First Nations. Tanis attended the University of Saskatchewan where she studied biological sciences which nourishes her sense of curiosity for the natural world. Having been grounded in Cree spirituality, this vein of study impressed further a dichotomy of world views.
Her growing body of studio work considers notions of memory through blood and storytelling while questioning the impulse of colonial thought. Tanis is a recent graduate from the Ottawa School of Art's Fine Art Diploma program, specializing in traditional printmaking methods and painting. The scope of her practice also includes tattooing, drawing, collage, performance, and sculpture.
